It's a good thing everyone was there because we were informed there were 2 emergency c-sections ahead of me so I was pushed back to 9:00!
Well while I was getting ready my IV fell right out, ugh!!! So they said L&D would put it in and left me be. Well as the time got closer Nurse Theresa came to out an IV in. Of course she tries once and nothing so she grabs another old school nurse and nothing. Theresa then grabs an anesthesiologist, she tried in my hand and hand and they blew. So then the charge nurse tried, nothing! Are you keeping count? So next I had two different anesthesiologists and an ultrasound machine so they could find a vein. They also brought lidocaine which helped a ton as they fished for my vein. Finally they decide to go in my wrist (inside). Can't say I have ever heard of that before but I told them they could out it in my foot is that would work! Finally a lovely anesthesiologist got it on stick #9!
Whew!
Dr. Heuser and Jamie were waiting for me and she was a little ticked they couldn't get it together.
I walked to the Operating room and hopped up on the table. They did my epidural and my catheter then started prepping everything. I was feeling nervous and anxious about the surgery itself since I could still feel movement. So strange! Finally they let Kyle come in and I just started crying. He was so great, he rubbed my arm, head, dried my tears and told me it was going to be fine. I remember thinking I don't think i can stop crying then I heard "hello Ali" and she was crying! Kyle laid his head down on mine and we cried and laughed at the same time. It was so amazingly crazy that she was here. They put her in a bassenet in the room to check her out. Next I heard "hello Sadie" and she cried then was whisked away to the other OR.
They told us they would do that just to make room because there were so many babies. Finally I felt them pushing and Dr Jamie was talking to Ray who didn't want to come out. Lol, next I heard "hello Ray"! He was girggely screaming. He was really upset!
He was taken to the other OR too. Kyle was called over to Ali. She was perfect. The neonatologist told me she was 3lb 10oz which immediately worried me but he said she was going to NICU due to her size but she was on room air and doing well.
Then Kyle was taken to OR 2 to see Sadie 4lbs 15 oz and Ray 4lbs 7oz. Sadie got a little oxygen but was fine. Once Ali ws cleaned up they brought her to me. Her little face was so absolutely perfect! Kyle finally came back with Sadie and Ray! We had our first family photo.
Kyle went with the babies to the NICU while they finished my surgery. It felt so long! Once in recovery I felt ok. My bp dropped a bit but it came back up.
I waited for a room for about 3 1/2 hours. Finally when they took me I could feel everything and was anxious to go see my babies. She said I could after my check at 5.
In the meantime Kyle for the list going and the grandparents and Aunt Mandy got to visit the babies. By the time they for back to the room it ws almost time for me to go. Kyle wheeled me over then helped me get washed and draped.
The room they are in is half the size of what we were supposed to be in so it is crowded! I visited and talked to each baby. We gave then their little toys that smell like home and then... The nurses asked if we wanted to hold them. What? Of course we do!
I did kangaroo care with Sadie who kept snuggling deeper down. Then Kyle held Ali and Ray. We probably held them for 2 hours.
Uncle David came to visit and for to hold Ray then Ali. Ray was so content in David's arms, he was kicked back and snuggling.
The nurse told us she was going to give them baths and then try to feed them. Earlier Sadie took 12ml which was awesome! Ray took 5ml but then spit up so he realy didn't get any. He was going to town in in a paci the she switched to the bottle and I think he was surprised when something came out.
Anyway, we had good intentions to help feed and bath however by the time she was ready it was after 9 and I was super late for my meds and checks so we went back to the room.
Kyle got us some food since I realized I hadn't had anything but a graham cracker and a Popsicle all day.
I got my catheter out which was awesome and I waited until 12 to do my last potty break since that is when my next check was. The schedule ws to wake me up at 3:30 for a check and more drugs then again at 7:20 for a check. The the aid added on some vital checks and a blood draw. Ugh! The nurse came to tell me she was leaving the new nurse came to tell me she was here and did another check.
I didn't sleep too much and they came to give me my last IV pain med and my IV is blown! I quit it and said forget it! Precocet and Motrin will have to do!
Congrats!!! They are precious!
